Message from Mayor GierischI had a very full Thanksgiving (pun intended) with my family. Shannon and I had a great holiday spending time with our children and grandson. We look forward to seeing so many of you enjoying downtown Roanoke, our beautiful holiday decorations, and local retailers. I was honored to participate in the annual Veterans Day event on November 11th. The ceremony, parade, car show and cook-off were great opportunities for our community to thank our heroes for their unwavering dedication to our country. Our Hometown Holiday event welcomed thousands to Oak Street. I look forward to spreading some holiday cheer each year. From the sledding hill to the tree lighting, I cherish the memories made at the 2023 Hometown Holiday event. On December 9th, my family and I enjoyed the Breakfast with Santa event. Our first responders served up a delicious breakfast, we took photos with Santa, and welcomed hundreds of people to celebrate the holidays in Roanoke. As we prepare to turn the calendars to 2024, I am closely watching our TxDot road updates, new building projects, and businesses coming to Roanoke. Watch our website and social media for construction and improvement updates. Our website is full of important updates and tips to maintain safety during these hot Texas summer months. Please visit the website, or call any of our talented departments, for assistance. You can also follow our social media pages for up to date information. Links to those pages are: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Linkedin, NextDoor. I hope to see you soon enjoying Roanoke's beautiful amenities.

Our staff looks forward to continued excellence in customer service, and dedication to the community. In the month of November, I enjoyed supporting Metroport Meals on Wheels and Chamber of Commerce in their respective fundraiser golf tournaments, and the Bobby Bragan Youth Foundation at their annual awards ceremony. I am continuously honored by our communities generosity and partnership. Our dedicated staff are continually working to offer improved services to you, our citizens. Employee Spotlight: David AllenEach month we wish to introduce you to one of our awesome staff members. This month, our spotlight is on David Allen, GIS Program Administrator. David has worked with the City of Roanoke for just under 7 months. When asked what he enjoys most about his job, David responded, "An interesting part of my job is that I get to interact with all departments, and build projects for all of them. The work is never the same. On any given week I may work on projects for three or four different departments. But the best part is that the projects I build and the data I create will be used by the city well into the future." Outside of work David writes GIS related textbooks, which are used by colleges and universities all over the world. A fun fact about David: He plays jazz trumpet, and has been known to play at a local club in Dallas as well as clubs in the New Orleans French Quarter. Please be sure to stop David next time you see him and thank him for all of his hard work.
