The holidays are almost here! I look forward to this time of year in Roanoke. Our beautiful, historic, City hosts festive lights and decorations, our many retailers begin offering gift options, and our restaurants begin preparing family meals.

I am looking forward to welcoming our community to the annual Veterans Day Parade, Car Show and Cook-Off on Saturday, November 11th. The 2023 Hometown Holiday street festival, tree lighting and parade will include an alpaca petting zoo, balloon twisting, carolers, chain saw wood carving, face painting, ice skating, live music, photos with Santa, holiday crafts, over 50 artisan vendors, wagon rides, and much more! Join the me for Roanoke's Hometown Holiday  December 2nd from Noon – 8:00 PM.

Message from City Manager Cody Petree

The City of Roanoke continues to grow in incredible ways! As we grow, we look for new and innovative ways to serve the community. Our staff looks forward to continued excellence in customer service, and dedication to the community.

Last month I had the opportunity to join the Fort Worth Mortgage Bankers Association for a Growth and Development discussion. Joining the stage with me were City of Fort Worth City Manager David Cook and City of Arlington City Manager Trey Yelverton. Topics of discussion included upcoming development projects, regional economic growth, infrastructure improvements, economic development incentives, local amenities, and long-term vision and goals. I was proud to represent Roanoke's tremendous economic and fiscal growth and to share our vision for a strong future.

Our dedicated staff are continually working to offer improved services to you, our citizens. Some highlights of their projects include:

  • Human Resources: The City of Roanoke is a great place to work! There are several opportunities to join our team of committed and professional staff. Click here to learn more about current job opportunities and to apply today.
  • Information Technology: On the last weekend in October, IT team members Blake and Corey, along with Police Department Officer Conner Branham, and Bill Hunt (DenCo 9-1-1), represented Roanoke in the Flower Mound Smoke Fest cooking competition. Roanoke's team "Smoke Patrol" placed 11th in the brisket competition and tied for 5th place in the People's Choice award. The team cooked corn fritters, steak, pinto beans, chicken, spare ribs, and brisket. The People's Choice entry was brisket and smoked cream cheese with a smoked jalapeno glaze on a club cracker. "Smoke Patrol" competed against 43 other talented teams. Roanoke's team will be awarded a trophy for National First Responders Day which will be presented at an upcoming City Council meeting. Congrats Roanoke team "Smoke Patrol"!
  • Library: In October, the Library & Museum offered programs, materials, and services about trains and the railroad, including a special exhibit at the library, train-themed story times, and more. The Little Oak Street Play area opened new fall-themed play learning scenes with a pumpkin patch, campground, and train station. Library users can now enjoy a new digital service, with the Cloud Library app! The platform will offer users access to more than 200,000 downloadable e-books and e-audiobooks which can be accessed on their favorite device.
  • Parks & Recreation: The Parks and Recreation team completed a new pond fountain installation at Roanoke's Community Park. In addition, new landscaping around the City Hall plaza has been installed. Be sure to drive by both the Community Park and City Hall to enjoy all of the hard work our Parks Maintenance team has managed. In the month of November, the Parks and Recreation Department will begin several large projects including construction of a new splash pad at Cannon Park and the continuation of turf installation in Fairplay park.

Our staff has welcomed several new additions to the team including:

  • Clarissa Armendariz, Recreation Aide
  • Anibal Campos, Public Safety Dispatcher
  • Kyle Lester, Director of Finance

Employee Spotlight: Shyanne Gines

Each month we wish to introduce you to one of our awesome staff members. This month, our spotlight is on Shyanne Gines, Police Department Records Clerk

Shyanne has worked with the City of Roanoke for just under 2 years. When asked what she loves most about her job, Shyanne responded, "Working with so many people who truly care about you and the community."

Outside of work, Shyanne enjoys spending time with her family, binge watching her  favorite TV series, spoiling her animals, and writing.

A fun fact about Shyanne: She loves bumble bees. She also has three dogs, one cat, and a frog. When she has time, she enjoys reading classic literature.

Please be sure to stop Shyanne next time you see her and thank her for all of her hard work.
