GLOWING URANIUM GLASS

MUSEUM

This month we will feature a new temporary exhibit of uranium glass tableware, which had uranium mixed in before melting for coloration. Popular in the early 20th century, it fell out of widespread use during the Cold War, when restrictions were placed on uranium. Restrictions lifted in the 1990s, and many new pieces were produced in small quantities into the 2000s. The normal color ranges from yellow to green, but it turns bright green under ultraviolet light.
