Whole Llama Fun End of Summer Party

All ages / Saturday, 8/5 @10:30 pm / Community Center

Let's celebrate all of your summer learning at this party.  Grand prize winners can collect their loot, and we'll have snacks, games, and crafts for all.  You can also take a souvenir photo with Lloyd the Llama, this year's  library mascot as proof you had a whole llama fun reading with us this summer.

Early Learning 

(Ages 0-6) 

The library offers regular storytimes for our littlest learners, including:

Baby Rhyme Time - Tuesdays @ 10:30 am

Board books, fingerplays & fun for ages 0-2 and their caregivers.

Namaste & Read - Thursdays @ 10:30 am - 

Yoga, movement & stories for ages 2-6.  Bring your own towel or mat.  **There is NO YOGA on Thursday, 8/3**

Preschool Storytime - Fridays @ 10:30 am

Stories, rhymes & songs for ages 2-6. Siblings welcome.

Family Storytime - 1st Wednesdays @ 6:30 pm

Stories, rhymes, songs & a family activity for all families with young children.

Fun & learning opportunities for school-aged children include:

Family Storytime - Wednesday, 8/2 @6:30 pm

A family that reads together grows together. Encourage reading by bringing the whole family to this storytime about our favorite animal, the llama.  We'll read, sing, and rhyme together and make a paper llama to take home, too! 

Family Movie - Saturday, 8/19  @2 pm / Meeting Room

Enjoy the Disney Classic The Emperor's New Groove (Rated PG), an animated comedy inspired by Incan culture.  Selfish Emperor Kuzco is turned into a llama when a spell goes wrong.  He must work with Kronk to fix things and win back his throne.

Fun &learning opportunities for tweens &teens include:  

Teen BeneKit : You are the Community, too! - kit pickup begins 8/19 / Work at home

Pick up a volunteer-from home kit, complete the assigned activities, and receive up to 20-service credit hours for your work.  

Cooking Safety with Your Friendly Neighborhood Firefighters - Saturday, 8/5 @2pm / Meeting Room

Denton county's Fire Marshall's office will talk about fire safety, with an emphasis on fire prevention during cooking.  

Artificer's Club: Sensory Bottles - Saturday, 8/12 @2pm / Meeting Room

Sensory bottles are a visual and physical tool for calming and relaxing the body. People can use sensory bottles when they feel anxious, overwhelmed, or agitated, and use the settling of contents inside to relax. Come in and create your own!

Teen+: Chess 101 - Saturday, 8/26 @2pm / Meeting Room

Adults & Teens can enjoy our new chess program, led by Daniel Marino.  There will be a period of instruction on the game and enough time afterwards to start playing!

We believe in life-long learning. Adult fun & learning opportunities include:

Citizenship Classes - Mon & Wed @ 5:00 - 7:30pm / Conference Room  

ESL Classes - Tue & Thu @ 12:00 -2:30 pm & 5:00 - 7:30pm / Conference Room  

North Texas Adult Education and Literacy (NTAEL) offers free classes for new citizens and learners of English.  To register or for more information, call 940-369-4047.  

Fiber Freind-zy - Thursdays @ 1:00 pm / Community Center 

Explore knitting, crochet, and other fiber arts at this weekly meeting where you can work on your own, seek advice from others, or learn something new. All skill levels are welcome.  

Goodwill Computer Classes -  Friday 8/11 & Friday 8/19 @12pm / Meeting Room 

This month we will explore Microsoft Power Point (8/11) and an introduction to computers and Windows software (8/25). The classes cover some basic information, but familiarity with computers may be helpful.  Class size is limited so registration is required. Please call the library at 817-491-2691 or email aholston@roanoketexas.com.

Crafternoon: Art Journaling - Sat 8/26 @ 2pm / Conference Room 

Altered books. Glue books. Junk journals.  We'll be examining the various kinds of art journaling and making some of our own. The library provides supplies, but feel free to bring any photos, clippings, or ephemera that you would like to use. Seating is limited, so please call the library at 817-491-2691 or email aholston@roanoketexas.com to reserve your seat.

Roanoke Visitor Center & Museum

Open Tue - Sat 10:00 am -  6:00 pm 

Escape summer's heat inside our COOL Visitor Center and Museum.  Kids can go on the hunt with our indoor scavenger puzzles, touch old treasures in our antique trunk, handle dinosaur fossils, and  have their photo taken on the wooden horse in front of our Silver Spur Junction barrel.
