Message from Mayor Gierisch

Spring has sprung in beautiful Roanoke! Our parks are beginning to blossom and soon we will be opening our splash pads and community pool. Our Parks & Recreation team is hard at work preparing Roanoke for you to enjoy during our summer months. We have had several great Parks projects in the works and I am so proud of our staff and their dedication.

The Public Works Department has been working to replace all residential water meters with new smart meters. The smart meters will allow users to view their water usage using the Eye On Water website and app. This update gives customers the ability to review their water usage in real time and sign up for leak alerts. The updated meters also provide a significant cost and time savings for City of Roanoke staff as they are easier to read and provide more accurate reads. Learn more about the new water meters here.

The Finance Department has worked earnestly to complete an Annual Comprehensive Financial Report. We are proud to announce we have received the Certificate of Achievement from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the 17th consecutive year. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. FORVIS, the company which conducted the audit, shared this comment from a member of the GFOA review panel; "In reviewing this report, it appears the City's team has dedicated a significant amount of effort in producing a very good Annual Comprehensive Financial Report and should be commended for this." When sharing this comment with the City Council, FORVIS stated this was the first time they had seen such a glowing remark.

The Information Technology Department has worked diligently to find new and innovative ways to ensure digital security, and find cost savings, for citywide technology services. Google Suite was recently rolled out to all City of Roanoke Departments. The City now uses Google based email programs, and full Google Suite products, helping with further cost benefit and excellent technological safety. We wish to extend a huge thanks to our Information Technology Department for their hard work, our "early adopters" for learning new procedures and helping teach the staff, and to all of you for continuing to communicate with us! Your feedback helps us continually improve.

I look forward to seeing you at one of our great local businesses, awesome events, or while strolling our beautiful City with my lovely wife.

Denton County Days

Message from City Manager Cody Petree

As the City of Roanoke continues to grow, we find creative ways to serve the community. Our staff has welcomed several new additions including Rebecca Tambunga, taking the role of Finance Administrator, and Maria Campos, serving as a Customer Service Representative. Additionally, some staff have shifted roles including our new Police Captain, Chris Arndt. Captain Arndt has worked with the City of Roanoke, Texas Police Department since October of 2021, and came to us from the Keller Police Department. The City of Roanoke is honored to have his expertise and leadership as part of the great team at the City of Roanoke, Texas Police Department.

March 21-22 I had the distinct honor of attending Tarrant & Denton County Days in Austin. During that time, I met with Texas State Representatives to discuss the future of Roanoke. Several people traveled with me including Mayor Pro Tem Holly Gray-Moore, City Councilmembers Hogan Page and Bryan Moyers, and Assistant City Manager Jeriahme Miller. We each walked away excited about all of the great things headed Roanoke’s way.

Roanoke is growing! We are proud of the great businesses which choose to make Roanoke their home. I am sure you have seen many sites under construction. You can now visit this page on our website to learn more about current building projects in Roanoke.

The Roanoke team aims to see to fruition the goals of our Mayor and Council, and to continue to lead the talented and dedicated staff of our great City.

Michelle Stokes

Employee Spotlight : Michelle Stokes

Each month we wish to introduce you to one of our incredible staff members. This month, our spotlight is on Michelle Stokes. Michelle is a Deputy Court Clerk with the Roanoke Municipal Court. When asked what she loves most about her job, Michelle responded, "Honestly, my coworkers. Courts is a small department, but plays a big role for the city. To be part of a department that is so close knit, within a positive atmosphere, makes coming to work not feel like work. Serving the community is just a bonus!" Outside of work, Michelle spends time with her family, enjoying concerts, and exploring the outdoors. A fun fact about Michelle: she recently met the founder and CEO of a major cosmetics company as part of an empowerment campaign! Be sure to say hello to Michelle next time you see her serving our great City.
