Message from Mayor Gierisch

It is hard to believe we witnessed snow and ice just a few weeks ago. Spring is here, and the City of Roanoke is prepared to celebrate! From our nine beautiful parks to several great street festivals and local events, you can fill your calendars with plans in Roanoke. Our popular Roanoke Farmers Market kick off date is April 1st. Following the launch of the market, from Noon-3:00 PM on April 1st, is our awesome Eggapalooza egg hunt. Roanoke’s signature Evenings on Oak Street Concert Series begins this April and runs through June. Be sure to save the date for our annual Roanoke Round Up this May 6th. We have a big musical guest announcement coming very soon, helping make Round Up one of the best Roanoke events to date.

The Roanoke Fire Department recently obtained a new brush truck. The truck carries 350 gallons of water and 15 gallons of firefighting foam. The Roanoke Fire Department deployed 16 times to wildfires in the State of Texas last year, utilizing the Department brush truck. The new truck will allow for continued support to the State, and service for local needs. Thanks to our dedicated public safety teams, Roanoke continues to be one of the safest cities in Texas.

I hope to run into you at one of our great local businesses, awesome events, or while strolling our beautiful City with my lovely wife.

Message from City Manager Cody Petree

The first quarter of the new year has ushered in many changes in Roanoke! From new business to new staff, Roanoke is expanding. In the month of January, I was granted the opportunity to continue serving Roanoke as the City Manager. Jeriahme Miller, Roanoke's Chief of Police, will also now serve as the Assistant City Manager. Clint Eustace has been promoted into the role of Assistant Chief of Police. We welcomed Ray McDonald to the team and he will now serve as the Director of Parks and Recreation.

I am honored to help see to fruition the goals of our Mayor and Council, and to continue to lead the talented and dedicated staff of our great City.

Edwin Ortiz

Employee Spotlight : Edwin Ortiz

Each month we wish to introduce you to one of our incredible staff members.

This month, our spotlight is on Edwin Ortiz. Edwin is a City of Roanoke Maintenance Worker who works with the Roanoke Public Works Department. Specifically, Edwin's time is dedicated to water quality.

Edwin has worked with the City of Roanoke for more than 8 years, starting in the Parks Department and then moving to the Public Works Department.

When asked what he loves most about his job, Edwin responded "I would have to say flushing fire hydrants. I flush about 48 deadens mains throughout the City to ensure our chlorine residuals are meeting state regulations. It is refreshing in the summer months.. but not so much in the winter."

Outside of work, Edwin enjoys spending time with his family, trying new restaurants, playing soccer, and exploring new parks and hiking trails.

Google Suite Implementation

The City of Roanoke Information Technology Department has worked diligently to find new and innovative ways to ensure digital security, and find cost savings, for citywide technology services. At the turn of the new year, some employees became "early adopters" of Google Suite technology. After several weeks of practice and great feedback, Google Suite was rolled out to all City of Roanoke Departments. The City now uses Google based email programs, and full Google Suite products, helping with further cost benefit and excellent technological safety. We wish to extend a huge thanks to our Information Technology Department for their hard work, our "early adopters" for learning new procedures and helping teach the staff, and to all of you for continuing to communicate with us! Your feedback helps us continually improve.
